Hundreds more talented athletes to benefit from new England Athletics Talent Hubs

England Athletics is delighted to announce two new Talent Hub partnerships with Loughborough University and St Marys University, Twickenham.

These agreements will build on the two established Hubs at Birmingham and Leeds, providing direct support to hundreds more athletes and their coaches on the England Athletics Talent Pathway.

Both Loughborough and St Mary’s have established reputations built over many years of supporting developing and world class athletes, further building on England Athletics’ mission of providing a network of industry-leading elite and community-linked environments.

The aim of the Hub network is to create a training and educational environment for pathway athletes and their coaches and, over time, develop links to local clubs to become an integrated part of the England Athletics structure.

The new Hubs will provide coaching support, coach education, mentoring, and a range of sports science and therapy services. More details of the Talent Pathways and the Athletics Hubs are available on the England Athletics Talent Pathway pages.

Sarah Benson, Head of Talent Development at England Athletics, said:

“We are delighted to be partnering with St Mary’s and Loughborough as new talent hubs to support more developing athletes on their journey through the pathway. The coaching expertise, sport science support and performance environments both universities bring to the England Athletics Talent Programme is world class. We are incredibly excited about the opportunity these partnerships present and to be collaboratively working together to deliver the England Athletics and UK Athletics Talent Strategy.”

Andrew Reid-Smith, Head of Sport at St Marys University, said:

“St Mary’s has a rich record in endurance running and we are proud of the athletes who train here and go on to compete on the national and world stages. We are delighted to be a designated talent hub and partnering with British Athletics and England Athletics as part of the university network, to support the development of athletes and coaches.”

Femi Akinsanya, Director of Athletics, Loughborough University, said:

“We’re delighted to have been selected as a new Talent Hub. This partnership is testament to the longevity of a high-performing athletics programme at the University that consistently delivers for its athletes. By building on the great work already in place, we hope to ensure that our athletes continue to receive the very best of performance support to achieve their personal sporting goals.”
