Location: Stevenage, Hertfordshire
Years in athletics: 8
Occupation: Student - Sports Studies at the University of Hertfordshire
Athletics involvement: Athlete, Coach, Official, Team Manager
I first became involved in athletics when I was 11 and have now been training and competing for 8 years. Over the last few years I have become an official in photo finish and have become the team manager for the Stevenage and North Herts’ Women’s Southern Athletics League team. I currently have an assistant coach qualification and I am currently in the process of getting the Athletics Coach qualification.
I am also currently a Sports Studies student at the University of Hertfordshire and working part time as a children’s activity instructor at a local sports park. My university degree is giving me a lot of experience and knowledge in lots of different areas in sport such as planning and organising events, coaching and sports development.
I joined the YAG because I want to be involved and contribute my ideas in to the development of the sport for young people. I think it is particularly important to try and tackle the issues of the drop off in participation of teenagers around the age of 16 and the lack of young officials and coaches.
