Update – Masters marathon qualifier confirmed

The Brighton Marathon has been confirmed as a fourth opportunity for runners to qualify to represent an England Masters team at the Asda Foundation Yorkshire Marathon on 18 October 2020.

The Brighton Marathon takes place on Sunday 19 April. Runners can still access places for the event via club entry. Brighton Marathon offers a maximum of ten race places for any England Athletics affiliated club. Runners will need to liaise with their club secretary to submit the runner name and email to the Brighton Marathon – after which the event will contact runners directly and invite them to register online and submit payment (all of which must be completed by 1 March deadline).

Please click here for details on how to enter the Brighton Marathon, including the runner submission form for club secretaries.

Any runner entering the Brighton Marathon and wishing to be eligible for England Age Group Masters selection for Marathon distance must also pre-register their interest via the online form on the England Athletics website prior to the race day.

If you meet the below eligibility criteria then you can click here to complete the online form and submit your registration of interest via England Athletics.

Eligibility

England Age Group Masters representation is achieved through qualification by position and a minimum standard. Affiliated club runners starting at V35 upwards to V80, who are registered athletes, can have an opportunity to earn themselves an England Masters representative vest.

If a runner has not registered their interest directly through England Athletics then they will not be eligible for selection. To be eligible for selection, runners must:

  1. Be 35 years old or above.
  2. Be a registered athlete of an England Athletics affiliated club at the time of running their qualifying race.
  3. Be eligible to run for England as their home nation.
  4. Have pre-registered their interest with England Athletics – click here to register - prior to midnight of the qualifying race.
  5. Finish amongst the Top 5 of those runners who registered interest in the Masters qualifying for the Brighton Marathon
  6. In addition to Point 5 above, runners must have met the minimum standards – see below. Standards must be achieved either on the day of the qualifying race or in the 12 months prior. Performances must have been achieved in an UKA licensed race.
