Shaping the British Athletics Performance Strategy

Over the course of the summer, British Athletics are conducting a wide-ranging review of their Performance Strategy.

Frank and honest feedback is vital to ensure the best possible input, and to encourage this, the review is being conducted independently. Vikki McPherson, who competed for Great Britain at nine World Championships over road, track and cross country is leading the overall Performance Strategy review. She is working closely with Malcolm Brown who is concurrently Chairing an independent review of the coaching system at all levels of athletics in the UK. Malcolm has coached numerous athletes to international level in over 40 years of coaching, therefore both are hugely knowledgeable in the high performance sport system in the UK in recent years, and bring a breadth of experience to the review process.

To ensure a wide cohort of the athletics community are encouraged to engage in the review it is commencing with an online survey. The survey is focused on gaining a better understanding of your perceptions of a key aspect of the British Athletics Performance Strategy, the Athletics Olympic and Paralympic World Class Programme otherwise referred to as the WCP.

Following this initial stage, the survey results will be shared and explored in a series of workshops which will consider the wider performance pathway across all athletics disciplines - for example those events that aren’t part of the Olympic or Paralympic track and field programme. British Athletics will announce the dates for these workshops once they have been confirmed. The aspiration is that the future Performance Strategy for Athletics in the UK engages, embraces and unites the athletics community. Without your input this won’t be possible so please do take the time to reflect on your experience and help us shape the future Performance Strategy.
