Queen’s Baton Relay arrives in the West Midlands

We are almost at the end of the Queen’s Baton Relay which sees the Baton touring the nation as it finishes its journey to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on 28 July. The Baton has toured all other Commonwealth nations and territories, including a visit to London over the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend. Over seventy of Team England’s athletes who have either been Part of the Pride across previous Games or are set to make their Commonwealth Games debut are carrying the Baton across the nation’s regions.

This week sees the baton finally arrive in the West Midlands and five of our athletes will be taking part. In addition the baton is travelling with the help of athletics and running clubs, their athletes and volunteers.

Double Olympic medallist and on this year's team for the 100m wheelchair sprint - Kare Adenegan performs a leg in Coventry on the 21st, followed by and 2018 Commonwealth Games team captain Anyika Onuora in Wolverhampton (24th), and Wheelchair racer and member of this year's team Nathan Maguire will be in Rowley Regis on the 25th. Issy Boffey will be in the Birmingham City Centre on the 27th and our Team Leader Kelly Sotherton takes the baton on the 27th.
