Kent Junior Schools Cross Country Championships 2015 attract over 1000 runners

Over 1,000 runners from 78 Kent junior schools took part in the Kent Junior Schools' Cross Country Championships organised by Ashford Leisure Trust on Saturday 21st March at the Kent County Showground, Detling. The event which was one of the largest in the UK, involved eight races covering schools years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Some of the top performances included an outstanding morning from Hilden Grange - a coeducational preparatory school in Tonbridge. They won four team gold medals along with two individual gold medals. Ashford School came away with two team gold medals and one individual gold medal.

Langton Green Primary School in Tunbridge Wells had two individual Gold medal winners and Upton Junior School, Merton Court Prep School and East Farleigh all finished with team gold medals.

Merton Court Prep School, Horsmonden Primary School and Ethelbert Road Primary School all had individual gold medal winners.

Peter Le Rossignol, Community Development Manager at Ashford Leisure Trust said: “Well done to all the schools and runners who took part in the event; it was great to see so many young people competing and taking part. We would also like to thank our event sponsors; Kent Sport, Keaveney Contractors, Podplus Ltd, McCabe Ford Williams, Red Eagle Recruitment Specialists, Kent School Uniform, Ashford Borough Council and Outset UK Ltd, who helped make the event possible together with over 30 event volunteers. Thank you also to the Kent County Showground and the Kent Event Centre for hosting the event.”

This event forms part of Ashford Leisure Trusts ‘Participation to Performance’ programme engaging people from across Kent to take part in sports related activity.
