Cross Country runners prepare to head to Wollaton for 'The National'

The English Cross Country Association National championships head to the familiar mud of Wollaton Park, Nottingham, this Saturday with stalwarts and first timers alike among the 8000+ entrants.

This year’s entries stand at a total of 8116 - the fifth highest figure since the championships moved to the 10 race format in 2003 and 5% up on the last time the national was at Wollaton in 2014. The Junior Women and Under 13 Boys events both see record entries.

All other races have healthy numbers with the following: Under 13 Girls 647, Under 15 Girls 612 (highest since 1998), Under 17 Women 380, Senior Women 1247, Under 15 Boys 579, Under 17 Men 488, Junior Men 372, Senior Men 2885.

Action gets underway with the Under 17 women’s race over 5k at 11am with the Senior Men last up as they tackle 12k from 3pm. This will be the 129th running of the Senior Men’s championship.
