Champions of the Road series half way through and hotting up

The first three races in the England Athletics Champions of the Road series have now taken place and a number of clubs and individuals have begun to accumulate points towards the 2019 series titles. However, with a further three races remaining in the series, these are by no means decided.

Prizes include specially designed, bespoke and personalised Champion of the Road vests and track tops!

Cambridge & Coleridge AC currently lead the clubs, but Highgate Harriers, Serpentine, Leeds City AC, Brighton Phoenix and Clapham Chasers are amongst those waiting in the wings with three races still to go.

Individually, Nick Goolab (Belgrave Harriers) tops the Men’s Individual table, with Adam Hickey (Southend AC) and Phil Sesemann (Leeds City AC) in second and third overall after two races each. Whilst in the Women’s competition Claire Duck (Leeds City AC) leads from Beth Kidger (Brighton Phoenix) and Annabel Gummow (Bristol & West).

However, the tables could well turn by the end of October as the Half Marathon and 10 miles races will provide further opportunity for the longer endurance athletes come to the fore and try to establish themselves as the 2019 Champion of the Road. Club teams and individuals with one or more race under their belts have the opportunity to increase their points tally in the remaining races. For those clubs and individuals who have not yet competed in the series the opportunity still remains to get involved.

Note: Teams and are individuals are not required to register and will be automatically entered into the series. Clubs must be affiliated with England Athletics and all runners must registered athletes in the current competition year.
