East African runners triumph in big US event on a weekend of multiple top-class half-marathons around the world; Belay Tilahun and Joyciline Jepkosgei took victory at the NYC Half on Sunday in contrasting races. In Europe there were wins in the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon for Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya in a course record of 66:34 in the women’s race and Mosinet Geremew of Ethiopia in 59:37 for the men’s title as five men broke the one-hour barrier. Britain’s Callum Hawkins continued his London Marathon preparations with 62:52 in 23rd place.

At the Bath Half Marathon, Chris Thompson won the men’s race and Kate Reed, who ran in the Beijing Olympics just over a decade ago, ran a PB to take the women’s victory in 72:44. At the Sage Reading Half Marathon on Sunday, Scott Overall came out top. The Asics Fleet half-marathon was won by James Bellward and Lesley Locks.
