Looking for some motivation to include running in your training regime each week? Are you keen to take part in a new training challenge against your peers? If so, the new England Athletics’ Weekly30 Run Challenge is just for you!
England Athletics has launched the Weekly30 Run Challenge, a free weekly virtual running challenge, to encourage sports people of all levels to benchmark their running skills against their peers and other sporting disciplines each weekend. With group running and mass participation events currently restricted, the Weekly30 Run Challenge gives individuals a perfect incentive to run on a weekly basis whilst competing against an online community of other runners in their and other sports from across the country: the competition will be fierce, and the pride of your sport is at stake!
Starting on the weekend of 20-21 June 2020, participants are challenged to run as far as they can in 30 minutes on either Saturday or Sunday each week (following government social distancing guidelines while running). Runners simply register free via the dedicated Weekly30 Run Challenge section of the OpenTrack virtual running platform (users only need to sign-up once) – adding details including their sport. Once registered, participants complete their weekly run at any time on a Saturday or Sunday. Every runner will see their results added to a scoring table with both total distance and average distance contributing to an overall league table showing results for sport versus sport.
As well as athletes and runners representing England Athletics’ grassroots clubs, other sports organisations supporting the challenge include Badminton England, RFU, RFL, British Rowing, England Netball, Archery GB, Table Tennis England and British Wrestling – with more set to join.
Let the rivalry begin!
