English Schools’ AA champs this week
Alexander Stadium gets set to host the ESAA Championships – the 4th largest athletics event in the world – taking place this Friday and Saturday 12-13 July. England Athletics are proud supporters of this special event that brings today’s exceptional young talent together; the future stars of our sport. The weekend’s events will showcase some of the best athletes in each county in England, competing for the honour and title of best athlete in the country, in their event and age group.

The booking system for all qualification and development opportunities for coaches and officials, has now moved from uLearn to Athletics Hub. The creation and provision of the new booking system offers much greater user functionality, including providing access to all learning in one place, and allowing multiple bookings to be made, offering greater ability to plan and book learning and development opportunities in advance.

England Athletics 5000m champs
The MK5000 PB Special will this year be incorporating the England Athletics 5000m Championships. The event will be held in Milton Keynes on 27 July (not at the England Athletics Senior champs in Manchester). If you wish to compete in the England Athletics champs you need to enter this race and hold the qualifying time (men under 14:10 and women under 16:10) which you have achieved in 2018 or 2019.

Champions of the Road image  Champions of the Road – get your entries in
The first three races in our Champions of the Road series have taken place and clubs and individuals have begun to accumulate points towards the 2019 series titles. Club teams and individuals with one or more race under their belts have the opportunity to increase their points tally in the remaining races. For those who have not yet competed in the series the opportunity still remains to get involved. Remember entries to some events fill quickly!

Club Run applications now open
England Athletics are now taking applications for the next round of Club Run. Well over 100 off track and road running clubs have taken part in the programme since it launched in 2017 and we will be looking to support a further 20-25 clubs in this next round. Club Run is free to affiliated clubs. Applications will close midnight Friday 26 July.

Redway Runners image  Turning the Redways of Milton Keynes Green
England Athletics CEO Chris Jones, and Club Support Manager Amy Frith visited award-winning Redway Runners in Milton Keynes at one of their Sunday morning Club Runs. From humble beginnings back in 2010, Redway Runners is now one of the largest running clubs in the country with over 2500 paid members this year. The club has enviable running routes thanks to the 270km of safe running paths known as the Milton Keynes Redways.

20k Walks champs report
Callum Wilkinson and Erika Kelly won the men and women’s England Athletics 20km races respectively. The event was incorporated into the British Grand Prix of Race Walking at Roundhay Park, Leeds.

finish line image  Course Measurers wanted
The first thing that most runners consider is how long a race is. Then, most want to know if it is has been accurately measured. All road races that advertise a set distance should be officially measured by an accredited UK course measurer. There are currently vacancies for course measurers in various parts of England.

Turn the School Run into a fun activity
We’re in the middle of School Run week and DW Fitness First are encouraging as many schools, parents and families as possible to turn the journey to school into a physical activity. Top UK athletes and expert trainers from local DW Fitness First gyms will be leading the sessions. Hannah England (pictured) was at St George’s Primary School in Worcester and Emily Diamond wraps things up with a day of activities in Swindon on the 15th.

#RunAndTalk image #RunAndTalk applications open for RunTogether groups
Our #RunAndTalk programme has been created with the aim of improving mental health through running in England. We want to:
• get people talking about mental health, sharing their experiences and removing stigma
• provide support and guidance to raise awareness of mental health problems
• support people experiencing mental health problems to be physically active through running.
Affiliated clubs and RunTogether groups can apply to be part of the #RunAndTalk programme.

Manchester International selection policy
The Manchester International on Wednesday 14 August sees England take on Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, GB U20s and a British League invitation team. England Athletics selection is linked to performance at the England Senior Championships on 27-28 July – and winners there get automatic selection.
