Level 2 information

How much do course cost?

Officials Education has been heavily subsidised through the Regional Officials Plan which means that they only cost £10 per place.

Who are they aimed at?

The level 2 Officials course are ideal for individuals with a basic knowledge of athletics who are interested in becoming and official.

Level 2 Officials do not have to have complete the Level 1 Course beforehand and the course enables individuals to act as officials at open meetings and league matches etc. It is the ideal course for club members wishing to become an official.

What does the course entail?

The Level 2 course, made up of 2 modules (normally done on the same day), is discipline specific i.e. the participants have to choose either Starter/Marksman, Field, Track or Timekeeping.

The generic module covers matters that are not discipline specific, such as responsibilities, basic Health and Safety/Risk Assessment etc. The discipline specific module covers rules and procedures and how to officiate safely and effectively.

After the course participants have to work at a minimum of four meetings covering a range of duties, and complete a log book.  This includes simple questions on the rules and procedures, and records of experience and mentoring.  It is completed at home, using the rule book, course materials or help from mentors, whenever convenient. Once completed and assessed as satisfactory the candiate become a qualified Level 2 Official.
