Yorkshire and Humberside Athletics Award winners 2007
A total of 17 awards, along with celebratory champagne from sponsors Heidsieck & Co Monopole, were presented to outstanding clubs, volunteers, officials, coaches and partnerships at the England Athletics Yorkshire and Humberside Region’s awards evening at the Headingly Experience, Leeds.
The awards were presented by Yorkshire-based GB internationals Richard Buck, Hatti Dean, Fiona Harrison and Becky Lyne plus England Athletics Chairman John Graves to:
Clubs of the Year – Doncaster AC (track and field), St Bedes AC (off-track), Holmfirth Harriers (junior) and Leeds City AC (inclusivity); young volunteer Robert Hodges (Kingston upon Hull AC), club volunteer Sandra Naylor (Barnsley AC), club development volunteer Barry Barnes (Doncaster AC); newcomer to officiating Ruth Rushton (Leeds City), off-track official Richard Gott (York Knavesmire), track and field official Michael James (Kingston upon Hull AC), services to officiating, Richard Brown (York AC); participation coach Mike Cordon (Sheffield AC), performance coach Rob Creasy (Sheffield), podium coach Dave Smith (Kingston upon Hull), coaching development Alex Kruger (Sheffield AC); local authority – Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council; and athletics partnership – Humberside Athletics Coaching Committee.
In addition, an auction raised £1,000 for bursaries for the region’s promising young athletes.
England Athletics Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Manager Kristine Monaghan said: “It was a brilliant night to celebrate success and thank the huge number of people without whom our No.1 Olympic sport could not operate.”
