The West Midlands Disability Athletics Focus Group (WMDAFG) in partnership with Sports Coach UK, and England Athletics - West Midlands held a “Working with Disabled People in Athletics” coach education awareness course on Saturday 21st April 2007. The course which took place at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham was aimed at Athletics Club Coaches and Special School Teachers in the West Midlands. The course which was fully subscribed was attended by 25 Coaches, and created “Huge “interest in both England and Wales. Places were provided free of charge to all West Midlands Club Coaches, as funding support for the course was provided by the European Indoors Athletics Championships Development Plan 2007.

Debbie Brennan –   Gold Medalist from the 2000 Sydney Paralympics was invited as a guest to attend the day, and provided a practical demonstration and insight into Wheel Chair Racing , and discussed with the Coaches the commitment involved in becoming an “ Elite Athlete “.
