Herefordshire and Worcestershire

March 2007 saw the creation of the Yr 8 County Athletics Performance Squad in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The assessment day held at Drotwich Spa High School attracted over 70 children, of which 40 were selected to attend County Squad training days held at the Indoor Regional Athletics Centre at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham and Nunnery Wood Sports Complex in Worcester.

The CAPS program is aimed at Yr 8 – 10 School Children, Athletes are nominated from Schools and Athletics Clubs to attend an “Athletics Assessment Day” where athletes take part in a variety of different physical assessments which are designed to assess an athletes Strength, Speed, Endurance and Core Motor Skills such as Agility, Balance and Coordination.

Successful Athletes who are selected to attend the (CAPS) Squad training sessions have the opportunity to receive expert multi event coaching from Club, County and Regional Squad Coaches.

At Yr 10 Athletes have the opportunity to progress to Regional Squads and then ultimately to the National Athletics Squad, and who knows an athlete from the West Midlands may be standing on the podium at the London 2012 Olympics?
