The first England Athletics indoor U20 team returned victorious from the Indoor International in Cardiff on 3rd February. The competition, which provides many young athletes with their first opportunity to represent England, is seen as a stepping stone on the way to senior competition. New comer to the team Andy Robertson, said this about the weekend:
"It was fantastic. What really impressed me was the team spirit England had. As a new comer to the team I was made really welcome by the others. It was really great to come away with a gold medal in the relay and hopefully it will be the first of many I win in England colours"
Shaunna Thompson another new athlete to the team said:
" I really enjoyed the competition. I thought it was a great experience and I'd do it again any day. Woohoo!!
Alan Harrison, England Athletics Chief Executive summed up the competition in the following way:
E - Every athlete gave a mature and professional performance
N - None of the athletes let themselves or the team down
G - Great team spirit which was rewarded with the Celtic Cup
L - Lyn Davis was a superb embassador for the sport and provided encouragement for all
A - Alison Wyeth and her management team did a great job in motivating the team
N - New England Athletics logo looked fantastic
D - Deserved thanks to Steve Brace, Director of Welsh Atheltics, and his volunteer team for organising the event.
