On Sunday 30 March 2008 over fifty Surrey Officials attended a Training Day to help them to enhance their judging skills and to learn to use new techniques, such as Photo finish and EDM, (Electronic Distance Measuring).
All the field officials were shown how to operate EDM and had a chance to practice using the technology on the field of the track at ACS Cobham where the day was held. The Timekeepers, Track Judges and Starter Marksman all had sessions with the Photo Finish equipment which was set up inside the Sports Centre at the school. All those disciplines also had their own workshops as did the Field officials when they were not involved with EDM training.
After lunch we were treated to a talk on “Meeting the Challenge” given by our guest speaker Wendy Haxell, a senior Hampshire Track Official. After the talk Wendy helped your Officials Secretary to explain the new official’s pathway which provoked a number of questions.
Don Webb our new President, a senior County field Official from Croydon Harriers gave a vote of thanks to Wendy Haxell and closed the training day by thanking the Tutors for the day and the Secretaries for organising the event.
