Proposals Welcome To Host 2009 EA Road Race Championships

England Athletics would like to receive proposals from established race organizers who would be interested in hosting our 2009 Half Marathon and 10k Championships.

ENGLAND CLUB COACHING INITIATIVE

Sweatshop EA Flying Coach Scheme Launched For Clubs

Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow AC hosted the launch of the Flying Coach Scheme for clubs on 29th July. Aspiring Champions Allen Souch was on hand to help celebrate the launch of a programme that can support coaches in affiliated clubs across the land. For further details click here

2008 Awards Process Now Live – Get Your Nominations In Now!

England Athletics Hall Of Fame – play your part……

In partnership with Athletics Weekly, England Athletics has now launched details of the inaugural EA Hall Of Fame. Legends of the sport will be inducted into the HOF for the first time at the British Motor Cycle Museum on Saturday 18th October. You can shape history by voting soon. New National Communications Officer Appointed

Experienced athletics journalist and member of Newham & Essex Beagles AC, Andy Barber, begins work on September 1st as the new National Communications Officer for England Athletics. Leading the development and management of the new EA website (to be launched in August) Andy will also lead all other England communications moving forward.

Women On Track

For further information on work aimed at driving womens participation in athletics, please visit the below website. Based on an original study conducted by Irene Speller, team manager of  Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow AC into the drop off of young females between the ages of 16-19, the www.womenontrack.org website provides people with information relating to women in athletics.

ROAD RUNNING

Road Running Funding Now Available!

As part of our ongoing commitment to developing grass roots road running, we are pleased to announce that a pot of £100,000 is now available for regions, counties, clubs and race organisers to tap into to develop their events and athletes.  Our key goals are to:

* Raise coaching and performance standards

* Raise event management, safety and officiating standards

* Develop new events in previously untapped communities (e.g. ethnic minority populations)

* Attract young people into distance running

Entry Details For U15/U17 England Track & Field Champs

 

Entries for this years U15/17 Track & Field Championships, to be held at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium, are coming in fast so prospective participants are encouraged to register now to avoid disappointment. For further details click here

 

2008 England U20 & 23 Champs / World Trial Results

 

Results from this years championships that were held in Bedford can be found via this link. Some of England’s aspiring champions were on display to pit their skills against an international field at the excellent Barkers Lane stadium.

LOTTERY UPDATE

Sport England Launches Public Consultation On Sports Lottery

 

Sport England has launched a public consultation to make sure future sports projects can access up to £45 million of funding as quickly and as simply as possible. Sport England would like to hear from people who play sport, from clubs, voluntary groups, local authorities, NGBs of sport and other key stakeholders to get a view on how the process of “applying for funding” can be improved. Stalwart Pope Acknowledged With MBE

 

David Pope, the tireless athletics stalwart, who during the last 34 years, has been President, Chairman and Secretary of the Northants & District Athletics Association, was last week awarded an MBE for his services to schools athletics in Northamptonshire. For further details click here.

Regional Awards

Road Running Newsletter
Colin Goater, Dave Dando and the South East Road Running Leadership Group have put together their second newsletter.  This is displayed on our website at http://www.englandathletics.org/south-east/roadrun/

Yell invest in Reading Schools Athletics     

For the 22nd year running, the Yell Group supported the Reading Schools Athletic League.  The final, with twelve boys and girls teams took place at Palmer Park on 25th June.  It’s estimated that over 450 Year 7 and 8 (under 14) pupils took part in the League whilst a further 200 Year 9 young people participated in a separate event for pupils under 16.

ENGLAND TEAMS

Morris & Jones Lead Way In Belgium International

Windsor`s Sophie Morris continued her stunning form by smashing her 5,000m best by 11 seconds in this recent international fixture. Trafford`s Katie Jones took the 400m hurdles with 59.32. Highlights from the England International track and field meeting in Belgium can be found by clicking here.

COMPETITION

2008 English Schools T&F Championships Looming Large

County Teams will be building up to the prestigious 2008 English Schools National Track & Field Championships in Gateshead during the coming weeks. This year’s champs take place on 11th & 12th July. New Schools Leadership & Club Competition Project Group

England Athletics is leading the work to develop two new exciting groups to drive forward the improvement of competition and development in both schools and clubs. The groups will work closely alongside each other and will comprise key providers of athletics in both settings, namely ESSA, Youth Sport Trust, Club Chairs and experienced volunteers. England Athletics Awards & Hall Of Fame Date Announced

British Motorcycle Museum will host the Inaugural National Awards Evening and Hall Of Fame induction on Saturday 18th October. Further details will appear shortly via the website. The National awards programme will link closely to regional award programmes that will run through September.

Regional Awards
The South East Regional Awards Evening will be held on Saturday 20th September at Thames Valley Athletics Centre.  Award categories and nomination forms will be available soon.

 

Affiliation

Clubs who are encountering difficulties with the affiliation process are welcome to phone the regional offices for support.

 

Funding

The new Big Lottery Fund programme opened for applications on 6th May. It's called "myplace" and is focused on delivering youth facilities, places for young people to go and get involved in exciting activities. It will be funding facilities which offer young people a place to enjoy their leisure time and the widest possibly choice of high quality sports, arts, music, cultural or youth work based activities. This is £190 million of non-lottery funding which Sport England is distributing on behalf of the DCSF.
