New Athletics Courses and Resources for Teachers

New Elevating Athletics resource packs have been sent to all schools in England via the School Sports Partnerships network.  Extra packs can be purchased from the UKA online website. http://www.ukashop.co.uk/products.asp?cat=0

In addition, a new set of courses has been developed for primary and secondary schools teachers.  These 6 hour courses can be delivered to a maximum of 24 participants as a one day course.  The cost is £450 payable to England Athletics Ltd.  The courses are designed to take place on school sites and include a mix of presentations and practical sessions.

At present the first option is for local School Sports Partnerships or other organisations to book a complete course although we are planning to run courses which individuals can book onto directly in the future.

Utilising the free Elevating Athletics resouce packs, the courses demonstrate progression across the age groups in generic and athletics specific running, jumping and throwing events.

Certificate in Teaching Primary Athletics

This course is designed for qualified and trainee teachers and those supporting the management and delivery of high quality education in primary schools.

The course highlights safe and inclusive teaching methodology, which initially focuses on developing competency in the fundamental movement skills that underpin athleticism, before examining how to apply these skills to running, jumping and throwing events.

The additional programmes and resources available to support delivery, measurement and assessment are signposted, and the inclusion of all children and the first steps into competition are highlighted.

Certificate in Teaching Secondary Athletics

For qualified and trainee teachers and those supporting the management and delivery of high quality sport and physical education in secondary schools.

The course builds upon what is presented in the Primary resource. It focuses upon the ongoing acquisition and further development of the fundamental movement skills that underpin athleticism. It highlights progressions for students of all abilities, presenting clear technical models and safe and inclusive teaching methodologies.

The additional programmes and resources available to support delivery, measurement and assessment, citizenship and problem solving are signposted and inclusion of all pupils and ongoing steps into competition are highlighted.

Courses can be adapted to fit into the time constraints of teacher training days and follow up specific event group sessions can be arranged.
