Press Release
An exciting new competition partnership has been formed comprising Southern Competition Limited and England Athletics in the East, London and South East areas.
This partnership signifies the culmination of months of discussion and planning. The England Athletics "tri region" group (East, London and South East) to be working with the South Of England in ensuring the continued provision of Inter Regional Competition. The existing championship programme provided by the South Of England, is widely recognised as providing a much needed standard of competition for our regions athletes and officials in our respective regions, who in all of this, both parties are keen to emphasise are the most important beneficiaries.
The England Athletics "tri" regions are working independently in their own areas to provide their own programme of region specific competition (e.g. the East through a close alliance with established competition providers Eastern Athletic Association) The partnership with South Of England provides a valuable next tier in the pyramid of competition.
The most significant aspect of this relationship has been the desire of all parties to work together to create a bright future for the athletes. Chris Jones, Regional Manager for England Athletics East said "We are committed through our new competition partnership to continual growth and evolution. We cannot stand still in this respect. Other sports are offering exciting and varied perspectives on competition, particularly for younger people and we must keep up. Each of our respective England Athletics regional teams are busy developing coaches, athletes, clubs and facilities but without a decent competition pathway, all efforts will fail to sustain interest.
We are delighted that through this partnership, we will be able to collectively continually develop and enhance the way in which the Southern championships are organised, structured and administered, The significant and diverse expertise that exists on all parties involved in this partnership will be invaluable in doing this"
Nigel Faben from the South Of England echoed Chris`s views and the need for partnership to take us forward "After a long and sometimes difficult period of internal deliberation on the part of SEAA, our Association can truly demonstrate that it has embraced its new role within the new structure of athletics. The SEAA is committed to producing Championship standard events that will provide an ideal stepping stone for both aspiring athletes and officials. Together with the three regions of England Athletics (South East, London and East) the SEAA and its subsidiary, Southern Competition, have contracted to work together to provide the funding and the experience for the continuance of the South of England Championships, in all the disciplines of our sport. The SEAA is delighted to play its part in the development of our athletics over the years up to 2012 and beyond. We look forward to a continuing and fruitful partnership with the three Regions".
