South East Athlete Pathway

Athlete

Athlete Squads and Training Days have been running for many years in the South East region at various levels. They offer athletes who have reached a certain level the chance to get together with athletes of a similar standard to receive coaching from high standard coaches.

Since 2000 County Squads have been developed through the Active Sports Programme.  These squads focussed on participation and the younger age groups. The selection process and standard varied widely.

During this same period Regional Development Squads were run by the respective AAA Coordinators -  Chris Benning and the South Region Coaching Group catered for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and the IOW and Oxfordshire and  Elspeth Turner ran the SSK Squad in Sussex ,Surrey & Kent.

UK Athletics during this time organised performance squads in the London North, London South and London West areas.
