| Key Projects |
The CSW Athletics Network will focus on three key projects in 2011 - 2012
1. Endurance Coach Development
Building on our first year the CSW Athletics Network will continue to develop all endurance coaches within our area This will be achieved with a series of coach development workshops considering how coaches can progress training workloads for athletes aged between15 - 21 and at the same time reduce the incidence of injury and illness experienced by these athletes which we hope will lead to the greater retention of junior athletes into the senior ranks.
2. Athlete Development:
In order to further support the coaching and development of young athletes within the network clubs, we will be working to provide training templates that seek to outline the competencies / skills required at each and every level both in term of age and level of performance.
To assist this work and to benefit all athletic events the CSW Network will
- Introduce a Warwickshire Super 8 League for U13 & U15 athletes
- Develop and lead an incentivised 18 month programme which informs, supports and encourages CSW clubs to integrate the Athletics 365 curriculum into their coaching for all under 15 athletes.
3. Club Coaching Structures/Capacity Growth
In looking into new areas of structured club and coach development we will concentrate on 2 new sub projects:
- Run England
We will seek to develop for each Network club that expresses an interest, a strategy to bring new participants into running and links with local clubs. Our goal is to establish in each major population centre of Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire a “new starters running group.”
- Extending the Academy Project:
To ensure a long term legacy CSW & UWEA will actively work towards the creation of two further event academies in CSW based on recognised local strengths and club interest.
A Wheelchair Racing Academy, taking advantage of the University of Warwick mondo track and drawing down support from England Athletics to establish a Midlands centre of wheelchair racing excellence.
A Sprints Academy. The target for year 2 will be to lay the foundations of a free standing academy with up to 4 coach development sessions for the CSW Athletics Network. We will use the lessons learnt from the UWEA to work with network clubs to establish the Sprints Academy and from an early stage identify and develop a local coach or group of coaches to take this academy into subsequent years.
Our measures of success
Growth in CSW Athletic Network club membership, both with new members but also crucially retaining athletes, with a focus on endurance athletes.
An improvement in endurance performance standards using Warwickshire County Athletic and Midland Athletics competitions.
Influence coaching in the network clubs supporting a well structured and managed growth in capacity.
Maintain and advanced the number of number of athlete / coach operating at Power of 10 national standards with targeted support in coach mentoring, sport science and sports medicine.
