Aims

The Humber Athletics Network is a partnership of clubs, county sport partnership, schools, local authorities and the University aimed at providing a consistent, sustainable quality approach to athletics in the Humber by:

  • Reducing duplication, pooling resources, encouraging sharing of ideas and in turn reduce volunteer time
  • Create a strong club infrastructure, underpinned by a strong volunteer workforce
  • Providing a voice for athletics in the Humber that can champion local decisions regarding athletics projects, facilities and future funding opportunities
  • Ensuring a greater chance of accessing local and national funding from a variety of partners
  • Ensuring a consistent approach across the Humber providing clear pathways and exit routes for athletes, clear competition structures and quality coaching to athletes
  • Supporting and influencing school competition structures to ensure a unified approach benefiting athletes exit routes into clubs and talent identification

The main athletics clubs involved are committed to the development of junior athletics.  The Network will look at welcoming additional clubs into the Network to ensure more coaches, volunteers and athletes benefit from the network.

Key Projects

The main focus of Network plan in Year 1 is:

  • Raise the profile of Humber Athletics
  • Creation of a Humber Athletics Coach Development Group
  • Recruitment of Volunteers
  • Athlete Induction Pack/Programme
  • School-Club Links
  • Club Sporthall winter competition
  • Community – Club links

Furthermore, the Network will have a specific road running subgroups, supported by a Run In England Activator and the Local Authorities.  The clubs involved have a strong focus on developing road running including:

  • Run In England Beginner Groups
  • 3-2-1 courses
  • Road Running Specific Coach Development Workshops

With the large geographical area in the Humber, the network will provide a forum to enable clubs, volunteers and coaches to share ideas and pool resources to drive the standards of athletics up in the Humber.  The network website will be particularly important in ensure effective communication between clubs, coaches, volunteers, athletes and key partners.  Additionally, the network will work with local key partners (local authorities/schools sport partnerships) to ensure local athletics need is met.  Overall the Network is essential to the long term success of athletics in the Humber.
