Aims

The strategic aim is to grow and sustain participation levels in the sport of athletics sharing routes to athletic success across the network through increased retention and participation in all age and ability groups whilst increasing the number and quality of coaches, athletes and officials participating in athletics in the network catchment area.

The clubs within the network are recognised as being amongst the leading in England from junior development pathway clubs to senior clubs, with national and international representatives across disciplines at every age level. Links to local schools, school partnerships, colleges and local authorities are significant and well developed.  Club coaches work with other community groups and other sports delivering sessions to encourage greater participation in athletics as well as better athletic development.

Building further on these successful foundations the network will change athletics in the area by:
1. sharing routes to athletic success across the network through increased retention and participation in all age and ability groups
2. sharing, increasing and delivering the highest quality coaching to all
3. delivering outstanding outcomes, fun and enjoyable experiences for all athletes, all ages, ambitions and abilities
4. sharing the significant opportunities that exist for the network partners to become even stronger
- developing further the existing levels of excellence across the Network
- unifying under one umbrella for the benefit of our existing and future athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers
- supported by and supporting coaches, officials and volunteers of the highest calibre.

In the latter stages of year 1 and in subsequent years Network Berkshire will concentrate on key strategic and operational developments. These will deliver increased quality and excellence of athletic coaching for development and performance to a wider, increased base of athletes and other sportsmen and women of all abilities and ambitions. The Network will continue to build and develop the current base of athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers all of whom will be proactively encouraged to remain in the sport of athletics (increased retention). Amongst the athlete community particular emphasis will be placed on the key stage of transition from junior to senior athlete.

The face and perceptions of athletics and its’ role in the sporting development of all within the Network Partners’ catchment areas will be changed through Network Berkshire engaging directly with all at every level.
