Aims
  • Recruit volunteer coordinators in each club to help increase the number of club volunteers so that club and coaching capacity can be increased.
  • Work closely with schools and Competition Managers to set up school-to-club links in each area
  • Work with the Surrey Schools Athletics Association and the School Sports Partnerships once coaches are in post
  • Encourage LA’s, through the local club, to help deliver and organise Star:Track schemes where none are in place, and support existing schemes
  • Work with clubs to achieve Clubmark
  • Encourage the Run in England programme and Leadership in Running Fitness courses.
  • Utilise flying coaches and mentoring schemes  - with focus on Technical events to improve performance of athletes and coaches.
  • To work with FE institutes to identify athletes & volunteers, inviting them to train at the local clubs and become second claim members if already in the sport ‘at home’.
  • To work with England Athletics to identify who the current athletics coaches are at the universities, so that coaches can contact them directly when their athletes move to the university, enabling a communication link between the two coaches to help develop the athlete and keep them in athletics.
  • Coach and Athlete Development Days:
-Regular development days for coaches and athletes focusing on the ‘five ring’ model.
-Develop coaches in the clubs weaker events such as jumps and throws.
-Employ best practice coaching in every discipline and run workshops for other coaches.
-Coaches to bring athletes to train together at one of the best facilities within practical commuting distance, with some of the best coaches in the South
  • Develop local competition such as club open meetings (QuadKids) and event specific competitions
