“bringing athletics to the people in a fun, vibrant and
inclusive format and to the places where the people
want to take part and feel comfortable doing so.”

AthleFIT is the brand new fitness programme from England Athletics which combines athletics with a fun and exciting programme of getting and keeping fit and will “take athletics to the people” providing accessible non competitive fitness sessions based upon athletics and ultimately - where there is a desire - a link through to athletics clubs and competition.

Athlefit - from the videoAthleFIT will be delivered by trainers and leaders who will be trained by England Athletics in conjunction with the FIA (Fitness Industry Association)  and will "take athletics to the people" both through leisure centres and the like to those already engaged in a fitness regime through to local "doorstep" venues to encourage those not engaged to take part for the first time.  Leaders will come from all sectors and communities and anyone who undertakes the 4 hour Athlefit orientation workshop will be insured through UKA insurance to deliver Athlefit to adults, the workshop will still carry 3 REPs points for those that are accredited.  More importantly AthleFIT will be delivered in local facilities such as school halls, faith centres and anywhere there is a need and that people feel comfortable.  Click here to watch a video to find out more.

Ultimately AthleFIT should be fun, flexible, accessible and challenging for the individual whatever their level of experience or indeed whatever their expectation or aspiration. AthleFIT combines the best of what are fundamentally athletic running, jumping and throwing events applied with the traditional circuit training approach.

England Athletics CEO Chris Jones said, "It really is about getting back to basics and for many of those people who experienced Sportshall athletics as a youngster this will be like a trip down memory lane for them.  2013 will see England Athletics introduce an AthleFIT leaders' workshop alongside other resources to complement the nationwide launch in 2013."
