An Introduction to Endurance Running resource
An endurance publication targeted at teachers, coaches and leaders working with youngest athletes and aimed at getting more youngsters involved in, and stimulated by, distance running is available to buy.
The publication, produced in partnership with UKA and fronted by acclaimed children's athletics' innovator George Bunner MBE, contains ideas, activities, games and team based competition formats and challenges that can be easily applied in either the school and/or club setting as part of a coordinated development programme for young people coming into the sport for the first time. The publication also contains some basic outline guidance on recommended suitable and safe running programmes and also associated distances for novices of this age and also contains details of the recently launched UKA awards scheme (most noticably the endurance award strand) that schools and clubs can use to recognise improvements in performance once young people develop their skills and abilities.
This resource signals the completion of the final strand (endurance) of England Athletics' (with partners UKA and ESAA) single award scheme for youngsters which complements the existing indoor sportshall and track and field awards. In turn, the competition manual set complements the existing short-form competition manuals which cover QuadKids, Sportshall and Super8."
