In 2006, aged just 19, Greg Rutherford claimed a Silver medal at the Gothenburg European Championships for the long jump. In 2009 he set a British long jump record of 8.30m. Four years later he added another Silver medal to his collection at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He never won any English Schools championships but his career has shown how it is possible for an athlete to progress at the highest level over time!
