Road Running is a huge area of the sport of athletics, and the regional team and Council recognise the need to help support and develop the vast network of clubs, athletes and coaches in the North West. In order to begin to understand the needs and wants of the Road Running fraternity an initial Road Running forum was held on the 27th June 2007. Permit/Endurance contacts from all five North West counties + the Isle of Man were invited to attend and the meeting proved to be hugely productive, and the ideas and proposals that were put forward can be downloaded here.
The meeting was led by North West Council member Bob Lynch. Bob has specific responsibility for the development of endurance intiatives in the region, and is happy to listen to any suggestions/ideas that you may have. Click here to contact Bob.
Engaging with Road Running Clubs
The Road Running forum recognised the need for members of the regional team to visit clubs at a county level and engage with them in order to get their views on how England Athletics NW can help to support them. It was suggested that county based RR forums be established and that these tie into an initial series of five "Road Running" specific training days - one per county. As well as giving a voice to Road Running clubs the days would also offer workshop style sessions that would provide training tips and advice to athletes and coaches of all levels and abilities.
In the coming months Regional staff will be contacting Road Running clubs in each county with a view to setting up these training days. NB. If you are interested in hosting an event and have a suitable venue in mind please contact a member of the regional team.
If you have any specific information you would like to see on the section of the site please do not hesitate to contact us.
