The fascinating women on track website is the brainchild of 1960’s GB high-jumper and multi-eventer, Gwenda Ward; who developed the site following many years of intense curiosity about the influence of gender in sport participation and performance.
An enlightening resource; women on track is designed to raise awareness and promote discussion about the specific needs of female athletes; focusing on aspects of coaching.
Fundamental Material
It is dedicated to female athletes and their coaches, and everyone who works for the advancement of women in sport. The site is focused primarily on track and field athletics, but contains fundamental material for women in all sports.
Its aim is to highlight gender issues which are relevant to athletic and sport performance and create a forum for the sharing of good practice, ideas and theoretical knowledge.
Endorsed
This unique and informative website showcases Ward’s 2002 document; “Coaching the Female Athlete”. This resource – written for UK Athletics - has been soundly endorsed by John Anderson (coach to many international male and female athletes), Callum Orr (appointed Head of Coaching and Teaching UK Athletics in 2006, and Dr Malcolm Brown, former Medical Advisor to UKA , who said “…this should be made compulsory reading for all those involved in women’s athletics.”
Chapters cover history, physiology, psychology, coaches and interpersonal skills, in a must-read for both female athletes and their coaches.
