I am pleased to announce that Dave Sunderland has agreed to co-ordinate the selection of England teams and development events for emerging talent until the new Coaching and Development manager takes up his or her role, reports Mike Summers, England Athletics, CEO.
Selection
He will co-ordinate selection with UK Athletics, liaise with competition providers both at home and abroad, identify competitive opportunities for those athletes and events that we wish to support, identify up and coming team managers, etc.
This will be predominately Track and Field although if any advice is needed on the endurance events bearing in mind his experience then I am sure that he will willingly give it.
Credentials
Dave's credentials are impressive. He has held several National Coach roles, including Middle Distance (2004-2006), Steeplechase (1990-1998) and Long Distance Junior (1983-1990). He has organised numerous major events including National Cross Country and Inter County Champs.
He has coached many athletes to international honours, including one world record holder and five european medalists. He has acted as Team Coach at two Olympics, four World Championships and two Commonwealth Games. He has lectured and run courses across the world and is the author of "High Performance Middle Distance Running".
