The countdown is on… Volunteers’ Week is coming

There is just over one week to go until National Volunteers' Week launches on 1stJune. The week runs from 1st to 7thJune and is a celebration right across the UK of the incredible contribution made by volunteers. England Athletics absolutely recognise that without volunteers our sport would simply not exist and so we have a number of exciting things going on across the week and for the rest of the month of June for you to get involved with to celebrate volunteering and to say thank you.

Join our Volunteering Support scheme to help make volunteering the best experience possible

England Athletics, funded by Spirit of 2012, are looking for between 20-30 people to join us on the first leg of a very exciting adventure! Supporting volunteers, helping them to settle in and feel valued in a club setting is so important and so we're pleased to announce this opportunity following on from our Innovation Day last month, where a group of club volunteers came together to share their experiences and ideas.

Night of 10,000 PBs and a Very Special Thank You

On Saturday night, the epic Highgate Harriers Night of 10,000 PB's came once more to Parliament Hill. This time, whilst hundreds of athletics lovers were crowding round the home straight to hear Paula Radcliffe and Lord Sebastian Coe sharing their stories, something different was happening across the track. In between the DJ booth and the bar, Ben Pochee, the driving force behind the event, had arranged a very special thank you. With candles and silverware, 26 officials sat down to dinner in Lane 1 of the back straight, served by the volunteers of Highgate Harriers and some of our friends at Team Personal Best.

First Team Personal Best event of the summer

Last week the Team Personal Best team braved the rain and the hail stones to take a trip to Sutcliffe Park Athletics Track for the first Team Personal Best event of the year. Cambridge Harriers' Open Young Athlete Trials is an annual event for young people interested in athletics to come and give it a go, and get a feel of what an athletics track and field event is like.

Volunteering Innovation Day a great success

Having secured funding from Spirit of 2012 to invest in developing and supporting our volunteers, an Innovation Day in Birmingham was arranged to plan the best approach for the development of a Volunteer Co-ordinator, and to discuss the wider challenges of involving volunteers in athletics and running.
