Birchfield Harriers have been successful in gaining a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to help research the history of the club's members who took part in the First World War. The stories unearthed so far tell of heroic actions, many using the athletic abilities of the stag bearers, "Running between the Lines", as they could run to relight a fuse, relay a message or throw a grenade
