The weekend of the 19 - 20 July sees the staging of the third Coventry Godiva Classic at the Coventry athletics track. This year's athletics fixture is developing into a showcase competition for wheelchair racers in the UK. The growing significance of this annual meeting is illustrated by British Athletics listing the fixture as the final opportunity for GB athletes to set qualifying marks for the IPC European Athletics Championships in Swansea at the end of August.
An essential course for anyone who is completing either an Athletics Coach or Coach in Running Fitness Qualification will be taking place in Sutton Coldfield on the evening of 6th August. The workshop is aimed to support those coaches who are currently completing the Coach in Running Fitness and Athletics Coach diary who feel they would benefit from some extra guidance and support.
Since the London Paralympic Games there has been a growth in the number of clubs and coaches providing wheelchair racing opportunities for new and development athletes. Following the promotion of a number of Introduction to Wheelchair Racing workshops, a Developing Wheelchair Racers coaching workshop will be held on 19th July.
Following the conclusion of the 2014 England Athletics Regional Club conference series, England Athletics committed to consulting the wider sport on the key issues that were raised. A short survey that covers these topics is now live.
The Black Country BeActive Partnership has issued an invitation to tender for two projects: a Run England Black Country Project (deadline noon 18th June) and a Club Development Project/Club Mentor (deadline 5pm 27th June).
It was a huge success story for the Sandwell Leisure Trust (SLT) girls' athletics volunteer Team at the national young volunteer awards and dinner which took part in Staffordshire. Howard Court, Athletics Development Officer, said, "The girls are amazing - I am so proud to have them on this wonderful inspirational journey, making a difference and changing young people's lives one day at a time."
The Staffordshire Athletics Network are pleased to announce their support of a workshop for all ability runners and run leaders. This is a practical session of exercises led by local physiotherapist Andrew Cauldwell (Active Therapy) to help improve many aspects of running but including cadence, posture and foot strike.
The 2014 England Athletics Regional Club conferences concluded on May 9th in Bury St Edmunds, marking the end of a six week period in which 11 events took place across England's nine regions.
