  • 31.May.11 David Bolarinwa on course for Europe with 10.29 clocking.

    David Bolarinwa 10.29 BedfordWhile his club were on international duty in the European clubs cup in Portugal, David Bolarinwa (Newham & Essex Beagles, coached by John Powell) was making his own road to European shores. The young beagle took his first senior title at the CAU Inter Counties championships, Bedford.

    Chris Tomlinson at Crystal PalaceLondon’s very own British League champions from 2010 were part of a very tight finish to the match held in Algarve, Portugal for 2011 European clubs cup. The competition is made up from all league champions from within Europe, Athletics version of the ’Champions League’. The UK representative scored 101 points some 3 points off 3rd place. The best points total scored in a while was contributed by quality performances from Chris Tomlinson (coach: Frank Attoh) winning the long jump in 8.28m (w) while also running an anchor leg in the 4x100m relay.

    London 2012 road signBritish Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) and The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) have been working together over the last twelve months to establish the BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships as a test event for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

    Rhian Horlock has been appointed Project Manager for the Run! Project to oversee the next phase, the appointment of Run! ‘Athletics Activators.’ Rhian will be working to take forward the project with a priority to having all 10 activators in post across the inner city London Boroughs.

  • 25.May.11 Narrow miss for Harriers in road relay championships

    Isabelle Broughton NYALHerne Hill Harriers finished in 5th place out of 71 teams at the British Masters road relay championships on 21 May missing out on a medal position by a matter of seconds. The 8-man team completed the 3 mile relay course in a time of 2 hours 12 minutes and 58 seconds, just 32 seconds behind 4th spot and 47 seconds away from a bronze medal finish. This was despite recording the 7th and 8th fastest laps on the day.

    North East View Barnet Copthall StadiumSaracens plans to transform Barnet Copthall Stadium would make the venue a key facility for athletics in the country according to UK Athletics.The athletics governing body has backed plans to refurbish the stadium which will be used for athletics, rugby and community sport.
