The Charles Bennett Olympic Mile was organised by Voice of Shapwick, the village community group, in association with Bournemouth Athletic Club and Wimborne Athletic Club. It celebrates the Olympic achievements of Shapwick-born Charles Bennett at the 1900 Summer Olympics.

In celebration of the Olympic Torch Relay passing through North Somerset and over Failand, North Somerset Athletic Club ran a celebratory training session at the Cathedral School Sports Field on Failand.

Young Kelly Hutchins (P2P Wesport) was in demand by the media ahead of the School Games. On the morning of competition Kelly was up at 5am – with team mascot – for BBC Breakfast and 5 Live, before finding herself selected to do 6 interviews in all!

113 runners took part in the 1 mile and 2 mile Fun Runs at Marazion as part of its celebrations for the visit of the Olympic Torch to its town.
