21.Aug.12 Benfleet encouraging budding athletes of the future
Following the inspirational last two weeks of Games, around 50 children attended the Benfleet Running Club hosted Aviva Startrack event.
The children - some new to track and field events - competed in runs, throws and jumps and club members were invited to “bring a friend” in the hope of encouraging budding athletes of the future.
The Club, who also used this as an Athletic Community Day to attract new volunteers into the sport, also encouraged the parents onto the track at Eastwood Academy in a combined relay race.
Junior Club Coordinator, Karl Cadman enthused after the event saying “After the excitement of the last two weeks, it was great to see so many new faces competing at the event, and shows promise for the Club, and the future of local athletics. Thanks to all who attended and also to all the Club Coaches and Volunteers without whom, these events could not take place.”
The Junior Club, 5 years old last week, grows from strength to strength and their extra Monday night session at Eastwood Academy is filling up week by week. The Club also works in partnership with the Essex Athletics Network to offer QuadKids, Sportshall and other local competitions for local young athletes.
Anyone interested in training with the Junior Club, becoming a member, or wanting to volunteer and help at the club can find out further information from the club website: www.BenfleetRunningClub.com/juniors
