02.Aug.12 Keynote speaker announced for Midlands and South West coaching conference

  

Joanne Elphinston has been Head of Performance Movement for the British Olympic Association, and an advisor to many organisations. She has worked with professional footballers, top golfers, and elite athletes from many sports including cycling, rowing, rugby and athletics.

Jo is from Australia but has worked in the USA, Sweden and now lives here in the UK. She is an internationally recognised lecturer on movement efficacy, injury prevention, rehabilitation and performance movement.

Jo's is the latest name added as a speaker at our 2012 National Coaching Conferences. Following on from the excitement of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the theme of the Conferences will be “Where next for coaching?” They will also be used as the launch events for this winter’s Local Coach Development Programme.

The events which have always been enthusiastically received by attendees will be held as follows:

Jo specialises in the efficiency of movement. Jo will be talking about the importance of correct movement patterns, conditioning and how this will impact upon athlete performance, and injury prevention. This is a particular passion of Jo’s and she will deliver a keynote with a practical applications. The whole area of movement in athletics is so important for athletes of all ages and one that coaches are becoming increasingly aware of.

Jo has already spoken to coaches on the NCDP for speed and having Jo deliver again has created a lot of excitement. Please book your places ASAP as this is a unique opportunity to receive the thoughts of an internationally reknown expert.

Jo believes in ensuring that the basic understanding of movement and movement patterns are embedded within athletes and their day-to-day training. Her keynote will address the importance of this understanding of movement (fundamentals), how this relates to conditioning and how important it is to get it right with young athletes before we load them.

At elite level, Joanne has worked with sports including Professional Football, Rugby, Sailing, Golf, Tennis, Badminton, Triathlon, Skiing (Alpine and Cross Country), Kayak and Canoe, Swimming, Weight lifting, Track and Field, Cycling, Netball, Karate, Squash, Rowing, Judo, Equestrian and Biathlon. Joanne’s sporting clients include medallists in championships including the 2005 World Athletics Championships, 2004 Olympics and 2002, 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games, as well as Ryder Cup, Walker Cup and European Tournament golf championship winners.

A former coach herself, Joanne has one foot planted in the medical world and the other in the training aspect of athlete management and development. This gives her an understanding of the challenges in sport from both perspectives.
