27.Jul.12 Last chance to sign up to host an Athletics Community Day – Join 150 events already registered!

Your club is invited to take advantage of a one-off opportunity to be part of national campaign backed by the BBC, Channel 4 and London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.  If your club registers to host an Athletics Community Day between 12th and 29th August 2012, you will be able to take advantage of national marketing, online resources, hard copy resources and exclusive discounts.

Hosting an Athletics Community Day is your chance to bring your club together to engage the local community and give them the opportunity to try athletics and have fun! We are fully aware that this is a busy time of year and therefore dates and format of events are very flexible. Clubs are free to format their event how they wish and if they have an event of some form already planned they can register it as an Athletics Community Day. There are already examples of clubs that have registered a Quadkids, Super 8, Open meet or Startrack session as an Athletics Community Day. Other clubs are hosting a one event for everyone to try some athletics and then adding a social element of having a BBQ as well. The format of your event is totally up to you but England Athletics can offer you support to promote your event.
One of the biggest benefits to hosting an event is it will also be part of the Join in Local Sport Campaign.  England Athletics are pleased to be working with LOCOG and the BBC to promote Community Days using the ‘Join in Local Sport’ initiative.  ‘Join In’ is supported by Sport England, Seb Coe, David Moorcroft, the British Olympic Association and the British Paralympic Association.

Community Day advert 350Seb Coe, Chair of London 2012, said: “We are really happy to support the ‘Join In’ project, it is a great idea that means that thousands of people across the UK can turn up and take part in local sports just after the Olympic Games finishes. Millions will be inspired by what they witness over the summer and I hope this creates opportunities in every community for people to join in their local sports clubs.” This is just one platform for clubs to be promoted upon and will allow clubs to achieve exposure that would not be possible for an independent event. Club’s events will also be promoted on www.london2012.com.

If your club would like to take advantage of a national marketing campaign, be supported by resources and engage your local community, then register to host an Athletics Community Day!
