13.Jul.12 Surrey searches for new Paralympic stars
Rain certainly didn’t stop play down at Charterhouse Club in Godalming for this years’ Playground to Podium county athlete assessment day.
Children with varying disabilities were invited from schools all over Surrey including Cornerstone, George Abbott, Heathside and Rodborough School to try out some Paralympic sports including Athletics, Wheelchair Basketball, Table Tennis and Cricket to see if their potential shown at school could lead to them to further success in sport.
The ever changeable British weather saw some heavy downpours of rain but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the young people doing their best to impress the coaches who were there to help them. The coaches’ assessments have now been completed and a number of the children are being invited along to county squads and centres of excellence for all of the sports on the day. Who knows? These could be the young people that everyone will be cheering along at Rio 2016!
With the 2012 Paralympics only weeks away, Playground to Podium is another truly inspiring event to get more young people with disabilities to participate and excel in sport.
