09.Jul.12 Saucony Hampshire Grand Prix - all welcome to a high quality event

  

The inaugural Saucony Hampshire Athletics Grand Prix will take place at Down Grange Athletics Stadium, Basingstoke on Wednesday 18 July 2012.

The event will feature top level and graded athletic competition for athletes of all ages (age 11 upwards) from Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey, Wiltshire, Sussex and beyond.  Event organisers are expecting 500 entries for the competition at the newly re-laid Basingstoke track.

The event coincides with the passing of the Torch Relay though the county.  The online entry system is open until Friday 13th July and postal entries until Tuesday 10th July.  After that, the organizers will accept entries on the evening at a higher entry fee, and subject to spaces in the event.  Michael Coker, the event organizer also welcomes a Olympic athletes from around the world who would like a pre Olympic event warm up. 

Electronic timing of track events, electronic measuring of field events, pace makers and fantastic prizes – all overseen by top officials (many of whom have been selected to officiate at the Olympic Games) will ensure the event will be an evening of fierce competition and high quality athletic performances.

Spectators are welcome and are invited to support the competitors and enjoy an evening of sporting entertainment. Entry to the stadium for spectators is FREE and with the Olympics Opening Ceremony taking place the week after the event, it is the perfect opportunity to get a taste of high quality regional athletics, before the best in the world compete in London.
