18.Jun.12 Torch support for 'Back The Track' campaign

In celebration of the Olympic Torch Relay passing through North Somerset and over Failand on the evening of Wednesday 23rd May North Somerset Athletic Club ran a celebratory training session at the Cathedral School Sports Field on Failand.

The Olympic Torch was carried directly past the Cathedral School playing fields earlier in the day, following a slight un-planned detour via Clevedon and Tickenham!  Many of the club members formed part of the torch celebrations as it passed villages throughout the County.

It was particularly poignant to carry out the session at The Cathedral School Sports fields as it is the site of the proposed multi-sport community facility incorporating an athletics track that the club and its partners have been working extremely hard to develop in its ‘Back The Track’ campaign.

The training event involved well over 100 young athletes ages 8 to 18 from the athletics club and school students in a combined hour and a half session. The event was run by the club's extensive array of fully qualified UKA coaches and supported by the school staff from the sports department.

It was a very enjoyable evening which during and after the session the ground’s pavilion was open for tea and coffee and an opportunity to talk to club officials to see the clubs vision for the future whilst at the same time celebrate as a club the once in a lifetime Olympic Torch relay passing earlier in the day.
