18.Jun.12 A busy quarter for Notts Athletic Network
The past quarter has been a busy one for Nottinghamshire Athletics Network (NAN). The network has expanded and has run training, events and seminars for coaches, athletes, officials and volunteers with a varied programme planned for the next few months.
Four Road Running clubs have now formally joined the Network – Long Eaton RC. NOTFAST RC, Holme Pierrepont RC and Southwell RC. Over 100 runners have been recruited in to the Run England scheme. One new Run England Group has been set up in Mansfield and two others are being established in the Newark area.
Courses have been held for both coaches and officials - a Technical Officials' course was held at Ashfield on 17th March which recruited 12 new officials, and a Coaching Assistant course was held in Mansfield in May. Four new coaches from Nottinghamshire clubs attended.
Bursaries have been made to 7 clubs to assist clubs deliver against specific objectives. These have included – supporting coach education costs, part fund long jump covers, publicity material and training equipment. A Volunteers Toolkit has been prepared and has been personalised to each club.
For coaches and athletes, the Network has delivered Introduction to Pole Vault sessions at Newark, Rushcliffe and Mansfield plus Introduction to Hurdles sessions. For the younger athletes who are not yet specialising, a QuadKids event was held at Bingham on 4th April which attracted 98 entries. The Athletics 365 Ambassador has visited three clubs to provide support. Athletic 365 Games Packs have been made available to all clubs. and additional 365 Athlete and Coaches packs have been distributed to clubs on request.
Publicity leaflets have been circulated to all secondary schools and all leisure centres in the county. All rugby clubs in the county have also had Come and Try Athletics flyers. Publicity material aimed at unattached runners has been distributed at 4 local road races. A pop up banner has been provided for Newark AC.
