The South West Championships & Inter Counties 2012 (supported by England Athletics will tak place at Exeter Arena on Sunday 15th July 2012.  Online entris for consideration into the County teams are now available.

The organisers aim to increase participation at the event particularly in the senior age groups by opening up entries to non South West or non County selected athletes while still retaining entry standards.

This will encourage the potential of athletes by:

• Building on the success of previous South West Inter County events
• Make this an aspirational event by working with clubs to encourage athletes who may not be selected to represent their county to attend as open or club entrants provided they meet the standard.

It will aMaintain and encourage performance by:

• Maintaining entry by standard only
• Trying to ensure competitive races by increasing participation in the senior events

Any athlete can enter if they were born or are resident in the south west counties of Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire provided they meet the entry standards.  There are a few places available for non south west athletes in the U20 and Senior categories.

This year the national Teams from Ghana and Swaziland will be competing at this event in their warm up to the Olympics. This is a fantastic opportunity for the senior age group to compete against international athletes.
