01.Jun.12 Hereford and Worcester Athletics Network QuadKids Competition
The Hereford and Worcester Athletics Network held its first successful QuadKids competition on a glorious evening on Friday 25th May to follow the passing of the Olympic flame through Worcestershire.
The competition was held at Stourport Sports Club and was followed by a free BBQ to accompany the presentations. Junior athletes from Worcester A.C, Bromsgrove and Redditch A.C and Kidderminster and Stourport A.C were all represented. Age groups included under 11 boys and girls and under 13 boys and girls. For some the competition provided the first opportunity to participate in a QuadKids style competition and take part in some of the events involved. The athletes took part in four events each, including a 75m sprint, 600m run, vortex howler throw and a standing long jump. The competition all took place within an hour and was followed by the well supported presentations and free BBQ.
The junior athletes who took part made the most of the opportunity and all age groups were very competitive with the winners being decided by just a point in some cases. It has been a busy week for athletics in Herefordshire and Worcestershire with the Olympic flame passing through the two counties as well as local schools and club competitions such as the Network QuadKids event. It is hoped that this week has raised the profile of athletics across local communities in the two counties and will continue to increase the interest in athletics leading up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the summer.
