02.May.12 PB smashed after Deaf UK champs inspiration
Inspired by meeting Deaf GB Hammer throwers Beth Sewell and Bethan Lishman at the Stoke Open/Deaf UK Champs (click here to read report), Iain who was competing for his club Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow in the National Junior League Southern Premier Division on Sunday 29th April at Eton smashed his PB.
Iain’s mum Karen said: “The terrible weather conditions didn't dampen Iain's enthusiasm increasing his PB by over 5m to 43.76m. Iain's next target are the European and Deaf World Junior Hammer records of 45.65m.” Iain’s new PB is now less than 2m away from both current records.
A very excited Iain commented: “I am chuffed. I wasn’t expecting this PB so early in the season, but I was inspired by meeting DUKA’s top Hammer throwers during the DUKA Trials in Stoke on Trent a week ago. They are good role models. Beth Sewell was very supporting and encouraging. I am very determined to achieve the best I can in the Hammer event.”
DUKA Director Brian Kokoruwe added: “This is fantastic news. We are really proud of Iain. He is definitely going to be a force in world deaf Hammer competitions in the coming years. We wish him all the best.”
