25.Apr.12 Pendle AC attract new members with Try Athletics Event

Pendle AC staged their Try Athletics Event on 16th April and had 30 people take part in the evening’s activities. The club decided to combine the event with a normal club night session to allow the new comers to see what goes on at the club and join in the action. Some of the current members took the chance to bring some friends along to show off their club.

The younger athletes joined in with the young current members and with the help of additional coaches took part in a big group warm up and then had a try at running, long jump and javelin. The over 10s were also able to join in with the current members, participating in a group warm up, sprints, 400m, hurdles, javelin and a fun relay.

The club were supported by the Pendle Leisure Trust who waived the track fees for the occasion.  Paul Wilson, development athlete coach, talked about the benefit of linking in with the ‘Are you ready?’ campaign “Linking to the Olympics provides great opportunities to attract new athletes to the sport. The publicity materials from England Athletics were a great help!”
