05.Mar.12 Combined Events champs a plethora of Personal Bests

Reuben Esien (Solihull) topped off a weekend filled with personal bests by winning the England Age Group Indoor Combined Events U15 Boys' pentathlon with 3104 points, beating David Guest's 2006 Championship Best Performance of 3084 points.

He was joined on the podium by pentathlete champions Shirin Irving (U17W), Emily Borthwick (U15G) and U17M Heptathlete Aled Price.

U17M indoor heptathlon 2012The weekend's competition got off to a great start with PBs for 11 of the 17 starters in the U17M 60m. Aiden Davies was fastest in 7.45 although sadly he did not finish the very final event of 1000m.  Aled Price however, went on to lead for much of the rest of the weekend to gain gold (4499 points) over Leeds City AC duo Matthew Campleman (4245) and James Finney (4157).

Shirin Irving (Croydon H) led the U17 women afer a 8.92 in hurdles from Marnie Wells-Nicholls in a PB of 9.13.  Birchfield's Nikita Campbell-Smith clawed her way back to silver medal position after a 5th in the 60mH with good high jump and long jump results, but Shirin jumped a PB in the long jump to lead going into the final event and Nikita's 5 second advantage in the 800m time was not enough.  Lucy Chappell (Doncaster AC) worked her way up the ranks to take the bronze on a good 800m time.

U15B indoor pentathlon 2012A small field in the U15 boys' pentathlon saw first and second positions remaining the same throughout for Reuben Esien (Solihull) and Harry Sutherland (Wycombe Phoenix) - but a battle for the bronze was taking place over the whole event for Ocean Schwartz (Holland sports), Joseph Hobson (City of Sheffield AC), and James McMahon (West Cheshire AC).

In contrast with the boys' pentathlon, there were 26 entries for the girls' event.  However, after the 60m hurdles, the high jump results settled the top U15G indoor pentathlon 20124 positions for the rest of the competition, with Emily Borthwick (Wigan), Kierra Barker (Basingstoke), and Annabelle Pask (Coventry Godiva H) on the podium.
