05.Dec.08 Road Running Performance Squad Day on 25 January 2009

This event on 25 January 2009 is a joint session hosted by the London & East Regions, so it will be a great opportunity to meet up/catch up with fellow athletes from outside your own region. It is open to eligible/invited athletes & their coaches, from the 2 Regions.

This will be an active day with a long run in the morning and in response to feedback from previous squads, an extended core stability/strength and conditioning session in the afternoon. The core stability session will have a number of extra coaches involved, each working with a small group of athletes, to make sure you get intensive feedback on the techniques being introduced.

The lunch time session will be an interactive Q&A with Eamonn Martin and Paul Evans, and they will be joined by Adrian Marriott (ranked 5th for UK marathon distance in 2007) who will provide an athlete’s perspective on current training strategies. The theme for this session will be “racing shorter – planning longer” – building long term goals into your training, and in particular using shorter endurance races and cross country as a path to ½ marathon and marathon success.

As ever coaches are encouraged to attend the squad days. Booking information is on the flyer below or contact:
London Region (David Chalfen)  dchalfen@leevalleypark.org.uk
East Region (Brian Corbett) roadrunning-east@englandathletics.org

Following the squad day the East Region will host the awards presentations for the 2008 Grand Prix Series which concluded with the City of Norwich ½ Marathon on Sunday 30th November. There will be awards for the top 3 male and top 3 female runners over the Series, and the top 3 clubs.
