01.Oct.11 Online form recruits new volunteers across the country
Since launching the ‘Are you ready?’ campaign just two months ago, England Athletics has received nearly 200 online requests to volunteer at local clubs. People provide their details and indicate what areas of volunteering they are interested in such as coaching, club volunteers, event volunteers and officials. After this, their details are passed onto their local Athletics network, who find suitable opportunities for the volunteer based on their interests and experience.
In the last couple of months, England Athletics has received requests from volunteers all over the country and of all ages. Rachael was one volunteer who registered her interest online. She is from Berkshire and hadn’t volunteered in Athletics before. Her details were passed onto Dennis Tucker, the network coordinator for Berkshire, who contacted Rachael and her local club.
Rachael is now volunteering at Bracknell Athletics Club. She volunteers 3 times a week with various different age groups. Rachael is really pleased to be volunteering, she said “My experience has been excellent. I got a very quick and friendly response from Berkshire Athletics Network, who passed my details onto the head coach at Bracknell. Since then I have really enjoyed myself and not looked back.” She continued, “The volunteering system that is in place within England athletics has been really useful, and without it I would not have known where to start with regards to getting into volunteering.”
This is a great example of the central registration can lead to new volunteers being recruited and provide valuable time and help in local areas.
