22.Oct.12 Successful Hellhole 10k adds to club's achievements

Derwentside AC who have recently achieved Clubmark and are part of the County Durham Athletics Network, have attracted almost 100 runners at their annual 10k multi terrain race.  Described as a course with a little bit of everything by the organisers the race takes in part of the coast to coast cycle route, local paths and a muddy burst through Hellhole wood near Beamish.

Derwentside AC hellhole 10kCraig Isherwood of Sunderland Harriers (pictured) had a comfortable victory in the Hellhole 10k multi terrain race held in Stanley on 14th October.  Craig finished two and a half minutes ahead of Isaac Dunn of Blackhill Bounders to take his second race win of the season in a time of 36:41. Sixteen year old Isaac held off veteran George Arthur of South Shields to take second position.

The first lady home was Angela Hunter of Jarrow and Hebburn followed by Heather Robinson of Chester-le-Street and Sophie Marr of Tyne Bridge Harriers. Both men’s and ladies team prizes were won by Blackhill Bounders.

Race secretary John Donneky said “It couldn’t have gone much better. Derwentside AC hellhole 10kA big thanks to all the volunteers, runners, Sustrans for the use of their cycle paths and our sponsor Stanley Town Council.”

Organised annually by Derwentside Athletic Club the race attracted ninety six entrants on a fine autumn morning. Judging by the smiles of the runners at the finish many will be back again next year.  With their recent Clubmark accreditation and currently going through the Whole Club Planning process with their local CCSO John Stacey, it looks like the club is doing well!
